Early Years

We at TGS believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in their early years, and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future. A secure, safe, and happy childhood is important. Good parenting and high-quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow

Staff at TGS believe that every child is unique, developing in different ways and at different rates, and they are constantly learning to be resilient, capable, and self-assured. We acknowledge that children learn strength and independence through positive relationships and thrive in environments tailored to their individual needs, emphasizing a strong teacher-parent partnership.

At TGS, effective teaching and learning are characterized by providing opportunities for play and exploration. All students will ‘have a go’! We believe in active learning where children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, to create and think critically, and learn to enjoy their achievements. We encourage children to develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things.

Curriculum

Children are born ready, able and eager to learn. They actively reach out to interact with other people, and with the world around them. Development is not an automatic process, It depends on each unique child having opportunities to interact in positive relationships and enabling environments. The best outcomes can be achieved when parents and teachers work together to support the development and well-being of our children.

Thomas Gall School adopts our tailor-made curriculum based on the Early Years Foundation Stage(EYFS) framework and the Edexcel iPrimary Reception programme, which sets standards for children's learning, development, and care from birth to age 5. All teachers have full access to teaching resources directly from Pearson Edexcel through the ActiveLearn platform, providing them with the tools and materials neededto deliver engaging, high-quality lessons that support each child's unique learning journey.

Our curriculum reflects the following 4 guiding principles

Unique Child

Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

Our Teachers:

  • Understand and observe each child’s development and learning, assess progress, and plan for their next steps.
  • Support children to develop a positive sense of their own identity and culture.
  • Identify any need for additional support in children.
  • Keep children safe.
  • Value and respect all children and families equally.

TGS provides an enabling environment that offers:

  • Rich learning opportunities through play and playful teaching

Coordinator's Message

Thomas Gall - International School in Galle
Ms. Farha
Lower Early Years (PG-KG1)

I am thrilled to welcome you and your child TGS. Our team’s goal is to provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where a child can develop to their fullest potential and to create a foundation for lifelong learning. We believe that every child is unique and has the potential to thrive in a caring and supportive educational setting. The PG & KG1 section follows the EYFS curriculum. Along with the academics, children learn music, dancing, cookery, sports, messy play and water play sessions. We always let your child explore, observe, experiment and learn, through fun-based activities. With us, children learn in a unique way and gain a strong foundation laid for their future education.

Ms. Deeniya

Upper Early Years (KG2/Bridge)

Welcome to TGS! KG2 has a more structured approach to prepare the children for primary school, focusing on developing their literacy skills and understanding of numbers through a range of practical activities. The bridging primarily aims to provide a smooth transition from EY education to structured learning environments, such as elementary school. Fundamental academic concepts like early math, literacy, and basic science are introduced to provide a balanced and holistic educational experience that prepares children for the next stage of their academic journey. A child engaging with people and the environment, playing, exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically contributes towards the underpin development across all areas to remain an effective and motivated learner in their whole life.
